Portsmouth based four piece Tricorn formed in 2008 and since then the band have built on their reputation of delivering solid riffs, full of a hard rock sound that is classic, heavy and with a stoner influence, which not only sounds epic on their 2 albums, but also sounds immense when played live.
Billy (Vocals/Guitar), Constantine (Guitar), Simon (Drums) and Adam (Bass) released their self-titled debut album which was lauded by the music press including Metal Hammer and Classic Rock Magazine, with both giving very favourable reviews. With the debut album packed full of monster riffs, gravelly melodic vocals and a killer rhythm section, songs such as ‘Give Me Some More’, ‘Crawl’ and ‘Momentum’ cemented their place as an exciting band to emerge onto the music scene.
Following on from such a strong debut album, Tricorn released their second album ‘The Walk Of Shame’ in 2013. 9 tracks of heavy hitting rock, the riffs blast out from the very first song ‘Lady’. Gritty vocals soar through the track, the bass and drums reverberating throughout and it creates a massive sound from the outset which follows on through the entire album. ‘Astral Dreams’, ‘Slipstream’ and ‘Falsify’ have more of those killer riffs, heavy and dirty in places, this is an album full of excellent songs with every one of them full of epic sounding rock. ‘Dogs Unleashed’ is riff upon riff in this instrumental track, before following on with ‘Serpentine’ and ‘Black Devil’s Smoke’ that are sludgy riff laden tracks with a thumping rhythm section. The powerful vocals sound brilliant over such a strong musical sound and every song on the album attacks the senses with an onslaught of heavy rock. ‘Step Outside’ and ‘Therapist’ end the album with more of those monstrous riffs the band are known for and with the ‘Walk Of Shame’ being full of awesome tracks, this album certainly lives up to the bands claim that they are “determined to blow the minds and ears of all those who stand before them”.
Prolific on the live scene as well, 2014 saw them play numerous dates including support slots with Karma To Burn, Desertstorm and Grifter, along with various events including Victorious Festival (the band played an excellent set on the Saturday), Xmas Weekender, Breaking Bands. Kicking off their live dates for 2015, Tricorn will be playing the Icebreaker Festival in Portsmouth on Saturday 31st January.
With two brilliant albums released by Tricorn, this is a band that is creating an exciting sound both in the studio and when they are playing live. Tricorn are definitely a band you are going to want to hear a lot more of in 2015.
