Ain’t No Other Like Buffalo Summer

Buffalo Summer

30.08.2014

Having already booked to see The Treatment at 2 venues in October as Buffalo Summer are the support for that tour along with Massive, when it was also announced they were supporting Phil Campbell’s All Starr Band in August as well, I had to go along to hear them play live as I had heard a couple of songs and really liked them.

Airbourne, Skam Live At The Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth

Airbourne

26.08.2014

When Airbourne announced 3 small club dates in the UK before touring again in October supporting Black Stone Cherry, I was particularly thrilled that they had chosen my local venue as one of those dates and for them to play at The Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth, my favourite venue over the last 30 years was just something I had to see. As this venue was probably the smallest capacity of the 3 dates it sold out pretty fast but I was able to track down a ticket for the event and I am so glad I didn’t miss this evening, it was destined to be something special.

Mark Morriss, Andrew Foster, The Butterfly Culture, Kill Kasper, Tricorn Live At Victorious Festival, Portsmouth

Victorious

23.07.2014

This weekend of 23rd and 24th August, Southsea in Hampshire hosted what has hopefully become an annual event of the Victorious Festival. Having moved this year to the seafront which allowed the festival to be even bigger and better, I think everyone will agree that the change of venue made the festival a total success, especially as Saturday was completely sold out in advance and Sunday wasn’t far off. Having attended on the Saturday it was certainly a brilliant day and the organisers did a fantastic job, hopefully the event will run with the same set up next year as it is certainly one of the festivals to go along and see in the South.

Featured Band: Calling All Astronauts

CAA

Calling All Astronauts are on a mission. Despairing at the fact that so many people like manufactured boybands, which is a concern amongst many of us that like music, they are determined that their electro-punk, riff-tinged rock will educate the fans of pop bands such as 1D and 5SOS, who let’s be honest have a dire taste in music for even being able to listen to such bands for more than a minute. Some may see this as a mammoth task, a near on impossibility but if anyone has the ability to change the attitude and minds of a misguided generation, then it is Calling All Astronauts.

Featured Band: Kyshera

Kyshera

Kyshera are a band that refuse to be defined by comparison or convention, are determined to set the agenda on their terms and both of their previous albums have the ability to make you sit up and listen to what they are about. A modern band that still believes in intelligent lyrics, something that hasn’t been seen for a number of years since the major record companies decided the world should be full of insipid music.

Featured Band: Electric Mary

Down To The Bone Iii

Having formed in Melbourne in 2003, the current line-up of the band comprises of Rusty (vocals), Pete Robinson (guitar and vocals) Alex Raunjak (bass guitar), Brett Wood (guitar and vocals), Davey Porter (drums) and have so far released 3 albums – Four Hands High (2004), Down to the Bone (2008) and III (2011). Full of guitar riffs from the start, gravelly rock vocals and an impressive rhythm I was hooked from the first listen. Fortunately I was able to get my hands on the last 2 albums as having heard a few songs I needed to hear a lot more of them.

Sell Your Soul To The Devilstrip

devilstrip

I like American rock bands, a lot of my albums over the years have been imported from the US when they haven’t been available over here in the UK, especially when the band hasn’t always had the exposure they deserve outside of the States.

One such band I came across via Twitter was a 3 piece rock band from Akron, Ohio by the name of Devilstrip. A listen on RevebNation to the track Go from their debut album Rise which was released 1st August, confirmed that Devilstrip were just my kind of band. Formed in 2013 Marc Wasmund (Vocals, guitar) Graig Lindgren (Bass) Jimmy Gray (Drums) have been steadily gaining support with a number of shows and have also joined Buckcherry on tour in the last year.

Time To Hunt Down BlackWolf

4-Panel-CD-DigiPak-with-Tunnel-Pocket-Template

I always listen to The New Rock Show on Planet Rock as Wyatt Wendels features 5 new artists each Saturday that are not heard during the day and it is an excellent opportunity to listen to some great bands that are probably new to many of those that tune into the show. So when Wyatt played the BlackWolf single Moving Mountains a couple of weeks ago, I really liked how they sounded and I wanted to hear more of them.

Andrew Foster Live At Castle Street Festival, Portsmouth

Andrew Foster Live

09.08.2014

Having released the brilliant debut album last month Science & Magic, Andrew Foster, a very talented singer-songwriter from the South Coast here in the UK has certainly been making his mark by playing a string of shows over the summer. With support slots for James Walsh (Starsailor) and Terry Reid, he has also played the Isle Of Wight Festival, The London Folkfest, Alsager Musical Festival and the O2 Academy 2 in London along with many over local events.
