BlackWolf, Fire Red Empress Live At The Exchange, Bristol

19.09.2014

When BlackWolf announced they were doing a small tour and Fire Red Empress were supporting them, I knew that I had to catch them on one of their dates around the country. Unable to make either Oxford or London this left just Bristol as the only chance to catch them live, even though it was the furthest away of all their dates in the south of the country. Being at The Exchange it also meant I didn’t have to find my way around much of Bristol, a city I haven’t visited for almost 30 years and even though it was a 250 mile trip, it was certainly worth it to see both bands play live.

Kodiak Jack Live At The Hobbit, Southampton

Kodiak Jack

06.09.2014

Kodiak Jack being local to me were always one of the bands that I had wanted to see live but events had always seemed to conspire against me every time they played near me. So it was with great delight that I saw them open for Phil Campbell’s All Starr Band at The Joiners in Southampton last week. An electrifying set of pure rock, the band sounded excellent but due to there being four bands on that evening it seemed a far too short set worthy of such a great sounding band.

Ain’t No Other Like Buffalo Summer

Buffalo Summer

30.08.2014

Having already booked to see The Treatment at 2 venues in October as Buffalo Summer are the support for that tour along with Massive, when it was also announced they were supporting Phil Campbell’s All Starr Band in August as well, I had to go along to hear them play live as I had heard a couple of songs and really liked them.

Airbourne, Skam Live At The Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth

Airbourne

26.08.2014

When Airbourne announced 3 small club dates in the UK before touring again in October supporting Black Stone Cherry, I was particularly thrilled that they had chosen my local venue as one of those dates and for them to play at The Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth, my favourite venue over the last 30 years was just something I had to see. As this venue was probably the smallest capacity of the 3 dates it sold out pretty fast but I was able to track down a ticket for the event and I am so glad I didn’t miss this evening, it was destined to be something special.

Mark Morriss, Andrew Foster, The Butterfly Culture, Kill Kasper, Tricorn Live At Victorious Festival, Portsmouth

Victorious

23.07.2014

This weekend of 23rd and 24th August, Southsea in Hampshire hosted what has hopefully become an annual event of the Victorious Festival. Having moved this year to the seafront which allowed the festival to be even bigger and better, I think everyone will agree that the change of venue made the festival a total success, especially as Saturday was completely sold out in advance and Sunday wasn’t far off. Having attended on the Saturday it was certainly a brilliant day and the organisers did a fantastic job, hopefully the event will run with the same set up next year as it is certainly one of the festivals to go along and see in the South.

Andrew Foster Live At Castle Street Festival, Portsmouth

Andrew Foster Live

09.08.2014

Having released the brilliant debut album last month Science & Magic, Andrew Foster, a very talented singer-songwriter from the South Coast here in the UK has certainly been making his mark by playing a string of shows over the summer. With support slots for James Walsh (Starsailor) and Terry Reid, he has also played the Isle Of Wight Festival, The London Folkfest, Alsager Musical Festival and the O2 Academy 2 in London along with many over local events.

Davy’s Gripp Live At Jack Rabbit Slims, Bognor Regis

Davy's Gripp

26.07.2014

This weekend of the 26th and 27th July the seaside resort of Bognor Regis is hosting its 24th annual Rox Festival held across 6 venues hosting around 100 artists, various DJ sets and workshops. Jack Rabbit Slims on the seafront was one of the venues with 24 artists featured there over the weekend and with all the live music happening there was only one band out of the entire event that I wanted to see and they were Davy’s Gripp.

Black Star Riders, Tax The Heat Live At The Concorde2, Brighton

20.07.2014

I like the Concorde 2 in Brighton, it’s a venue that is steeped in history and I have always liked going to gigs there despite it being a bit of a trek across 2 counties and so it had to be the choice of venue to go and see Black Star Riders on their UK tour supported by Tax The Heat. As I arrived it did seem like all hell was breaking loose as thunder and lightning preceded the gig but it did nothing to dampen the heat that was generated there tonight.

Andrew Foster Live At Worthing Theatre, Worthing

SAMSUNG

05.07.2014

I’ll be the first to admit I have never been the biggest fan of acoustic music, I like it loud, I like it to rock and so when I went to see James Walsh a few months ago I was guessing the support would also be acoustic and I was a bit apprehensive whether I could enjoy two artists on the same night with just a guitar. Then Andrew Foster took to the stage in what I have to say was a very rock and roll shirt, looking way too young to be out gigging and proceeded to play songs that instantly made me change my mind about the whole acoustic thing. His banter with the audience was an added bonus as so many artists sometimes fail to engage with the crowd and most there seemed to enjoy the all too brief set.
